St John’s Hospital, as is the norm, will have admissions from their own medical assessment unit which is fully operational today.”“Where patients are identified as suitable for an inter-hospital transfer, that transfer is only effected once all the necessary arrangements have been agreed between the clinical teams and bed management at both the transferring and receiving hospital.”“On a typical day at UL Hospitals Group, approximately 15 patients are transferred from UHL to the Model 2 hospitals at St John’s, Ennis and Nenagh,” the spokesman added. On Sunday, Tanaiste Simon Coveney promised Fine Gael would “fix the trolley crisis by making further investment in beds and staff”.Speaking outside Thomond Park, Mr Coveney told reporters: “Because of a strong growing economy, we now can make realistic financial commitments to add extra beds, extra staff into the system, and fix, once and for all, the accident and emergency pressures we are seeing in Limerick.”A 60-bed modular unit is currently being built on the grounds of UHL, and management has sought a further 96-bed unit. Latest Countrywide results reveal alarming decline in sales and lettings revenue

first_imgCountrywide says its financial services and business-to-business operations delivered strong growth last year, but otherwise its latest trading update is unlikely to impress investors in the City.Group income for 2017 is expected to be down 8.8% year-on-year and down by 8.4% year-on-year for the final quarter. The City is likely to be worried in particular by Countrywide’s group pre-tax profits, which dropped year-on-year by 22% to £65 million.Countrywide expects its sales and lettings business to have produced £360m last year when the final results are published in March, down 14% on 2016, which it blames on a “disappointing” final quarter last year. Its lettings business performed best declining by 4% last year while sales income dropped by 14%.London marketOne glimmer of hope for the company is the improving London market, where a decline in income has been halted and its sales operation is doing better than the rest of the country. But the battering for its sales and lettings operation is clear in the figures – profits are due to be down 45% year-on-year for 2017, although Countrywide says the cost of its recent branch closures and staff cuts made over the past two years are a principal reason for this.“We have begun to take a range of actions over the last quarter that we believe can restore the business back to profitable growth,” the update says. One figure buried in the report will cheers investors – Countrywide reduced its debt during 2017 from £248m to £193m.Read more about Countrywide.Countrywide results 2017 January 18, 2018Nigel LewisWhat’s your opinion? Grill Safety

first_imgWhen you check thin food like burgers, insert the stem of the thermometer through the side of the patty to get an accurate reading. Ground beef should reach at least 160 degrees F in the center to be safe. Ground poultry should reach at least 165 degrees. Whole cuts of beef, veal or lamb should reach at least 145 degrees for medium rare or 160 degrees for medium doneness. Pork chops and pork loins should reach 160 degrees. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the food away from any bones and fat. Wait at least 15 seconds to take the reading. Like your neighbors and friends and want to keep them happy? If so, when you invite them for a cook-out, you better make sure the food is safe. Bacteria can multiply quickly in warm, summer temperatures and can turn outdoor entertaining into a neighborhood nightmare. Food safety is just as important when grilling outdoors as it is in the kitchen. Food that is not handled properly can make you sick. To keep guests safe from foodborne illness, remember to:CLEANWash your hands before you touch food and after you handle raw meat, poultry, fish, seafood or eggs. If the location where you are grilling has no running water or soap, take disposable hand wipes and hand sanitizer. You may want to use disposable gloves when handling raw items. Change to a new pair of gloves before handling cooked products. Always keep the food-preparation area clean and use clean utensils. If working outside, take aluminum foil or disposable plates to use as a clean preparation surface and have plenty of disposable utensils on hand. In the kitchen, keep counters, dishes and utensils clean by washing with soap and hot water. SEPARATE Always keep foods separate. Keep contaminated surface and raw food and their juices from coming in contact with foods that are already cooked or ready to eat, like fruits and vegetables. Use a clean plate when removing cooked meats from the grill. Do not put the cooked meat on the plate you used to bring raw meat to the grill. COOKMeat or poultry cooked on the grill can brown quickly on the outside. But is it really done? Take the guesswork out of grilling by using a food thermometer. This helpful tool will tell you when the food has reached the necessary temperature inside to destroy harmful bacteria and viruses. CHILLKeeping food cold is one way to keep harmful bacteria from multiplying. Even when thawing frozen foods, it is important to use methods that don’t allow the food’s surface to warm up while the food is still frozen inside. There are three safe methods for thawing foods: Thaw ahead of time in the refrigerator.Thaw in cold water, changing water every 30 minutes. Thaw in the microwave, cooking the warm food immediately after thawing. If you are planning to marinate meat or poultry before grilling, marinate first in the refrigerator, not on your kitchen counter at room temperature. A summertime cook-out is a great way to entertain your neighbors and friends. But to keep them happy and healthy, remember to keep the food safe for them.last_img read more
