Cosmopolitan jcpenney Partner in Clothing Line

first_img“[It’s] the brand coming to life in a fashion realm,” says Susan Schulz, Cosmo’s editorial brand director. “The process has been very smooth. Everybody, I think, in the beginning was a little nervous. I don’t know that it’s ever really been done before that a magazine would have this much input.”Cosmo will play a role in marketing and promotion of the line through traditional ad placements, as well as content integration.A slideshow featured on the Cosmopolitan.com front page Thursday allows readers to link to a story about the product launch and includes an option to purchase the clothing from jcp.com.“One of my main jobs as we move forward is finding ways to integrate the product,” Schulz says. “How to promote the product in an organic way that makes sense for our reader. We know she doesn’t want to be clobbered with it, she doesn’t want to be getting a message about the Cosmo Collection every five seconds.”“But where it does make sense to her, we want to be able to tell her, ‘Look at these new shoes. They’re in store now. We think you’re going to love them.’ “The product launch is the first of its kind for Cosmopolitan, which attracts more than 18 million print readers and 8.5 unique monthly visitors. The company has participated in collaborative media projects with Sterling Books and YouTube, however.jcpenney also signed a licensing deal with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia [MSLO] in December of 2011. That agreement calls for a line of MSLO products to be sold online and in retail outlets that will be constructed within most jcpenney stores by February 2013. jcpenney also invested $38.5 million in MSLO in the deal. You can now get your Cosmo at jcpenney—not the magazine though, the clothing line. The Cosmopolitan Collection, a new brand of lingerie, sleepwear and accessories inspired by the world’s top-selling women’s magazine, went on sale this weekend at jcpenney’s 600-plus retailers across the country and on jcp.com.The launch culminates a two-year collaborative process between the companies that began with discussions between recently-departed Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Kate White and former jcpenney CEO Mike Ullman in November of 2010. last_img read more

Inside the amazing Spruce Goose at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum

first_img The Spruce Goose, SR-71, spaceplanes and MiGs at Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum Evergreen is no one-trick goose, er, pony. Immaculate aircraft from every decade of flight fill two massive hangars, plus several aircraft outside. In the shadow of the Goose is a PBY Catalina, one of the oldest airworthy DC-3s (that you can also go inside), several Cold War-era jets and more. Across the parking lot, past the theater building, is the museum’s collection of more modern aircraft: an SR-71 Blackbird, A-10 Warthog, MiG-23 and a multitude of helicopters. Going a bit higher and faster, the “space” part of the museum includes a Titan missile, X-38 experimental re-entry vehicle, and several replicas of Apollo-era landers and modules. 63 Photos It was 1942. The Second World War was raging. The US needed to get men and supplies across the Atlantic, a passage menaced by German U-boats. Famed shipwright Henry Kaiser had an idea, and he enlisted the help of legendary aircraft designer and business mogul Howard Hughes to bring it to fruition: an enormous flying cargo ship. The H-4 Hercules, aka the Spruce Goose, was born.Hughes would be accused of war profiteering, and, perhaps out of spite, finished and even flew the H-4. It flew once, and only for 26 seconds. Afterward it lived in a climate-controlled Long Beach hangar until Hughes’ death in 1976. In the ’90s, the H-4 made one last trip to its permanent home not far from Portland, Oregon, to the excellent Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. The Spruce Goose is a marvel even now, over 70 years since its first, and last, flight. You can even go inside… which I did.  Share your voice Ghost blimps haunt a humongous hangar at the Tillamook Air Museum Apocalypse then: Inside the chilling Titan Missile Museum The fabulous flying boats of the Solent Sky museum Boeings, bombers and biplanes at the Seattle Museum of Flight More tours 1 The Evergreen is also one of the more expensive museums I’ve toured. $27 to get in, plus $30 for a 15-minute, or $50 for a 45-minute, tour of the flight deck of the Spruce Goose. Given the size and variety at the museum, however, I felt I got my money’s worth. If you have limited time in the area, you could spend the morning checking out the ghosts of blimps past at Tillamook Air Museum, and do Evergreen in the afternoon, as I did, for a day of amazing aviation history.  As well as covering TV and other display tech, Geoff does photo tours of cool museums and locations around the world including nuclear submarines, massive aircraft carriers, medieval castles, airplane graveyards and more.  You can follow his exploits on Instagram, Twitter, and on his travel blog BaldNomad. He also wrote a bestselling sci-fi novel.  Tags Evergreen Air It’s hard to miss the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. There’s not one but two 747s out front and one is stuck on the roof of a waterpark, believe it or not. In the museum’s main parking lot, between the two main buildings, you pass sleek MiG-29s and F-14s, and even catch a glimpse of the H-4 itself, sitting behind the enormous glass-walled front of the museum. Geoffrey Morrison/CNET Inside is one of the most impressive spaces I’ve ever seen. The H-4 dominates the expansive hangar while other aircraft sit under its 321-foot (98-meter) wings, looking almost like toys. On a family trip to California when I was a kid I saw the Spruce Goose in its geodesic Long Beach home. I barely remember it, but standing under the wing it’s like I’m a kid again. I took the guided tour of the Goose’s interior, snapped lots of photos, asked lots of questions, and even recorded this sweet 360 video from the cockpit: Comment Seaplanes to spaceplanes The Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum has many of my favorite aircraft, and all in excellent shape. I wish you could go inside more of them, but that’s an expensive proposition, given the wear and tear this would inevitably cause to these classic aircraft. Mohammad Kaif meets Katrina Kaif and clears their relationship status Twitter reacts

first_imgWatch it bro! Your wife follows you on twitter— Priyatham (@priyathamr) 4 June 2019 Finally the Kaif’s meet. PS- As clarified earlier, abhi tak koi rishta nahi , except insaaniyat ka 🙂 pic.twitter.com/5lK1cLHlEq — Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) 4 June 2019 Katrina Kaif and Mohammad Kaif in the cricket studio.TwitterFormer Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif happened to meet Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif in a cricket studio in London and shared a picture on Twitter, after which all hell broke loose on the social networking site. Mohammad Kaif sort of cleared the air on speculations of them being related or possibly being in a relationship in the future because of a common surname.”Finally the Kaif’s meet. PS- As clarified earlier, abhi tak koi rishta nahi , except insaaniyat ka 🙂 (sic)”, said Mohammad Kaif. This sends fans in a tizzy on Twitter, as to what he meant by “abhi tak” (not yet), since he is already married. In September 2018, in an #AskKaif session on Twitter, a fan had directly asked Mohammad Kaif if he was related to Katrina Kaif. “Sir are you related to Katrina Kaif? If not, then do you think there’s a chance in the future? 😉 #AskKaif (sic),” the fan had asked, to which Mohammad Kaif had replied that they were “not related yet” although he is already married. Mohammad Kaif had replied to the question as “Not related yet 🙂 Baaki, already happily married. But heard an interesting story of how Katrina got her surname Kaif, according to that story it has a connection with my name.”According to the Bollywood grapevine, Katrina Kaif’s father’s name is Mohammad Kaif but since he is estranged from her mother Suzanne Turquotte, she used her mother’s surname. Hence, when she came to India, her name was Katrina Turquotte but was changed by Ayesha Shroff, the producer of her first movie Boom, to Katrina Kaif. The actress is also rumoured to have said that she took the last name Kaif as the cricketer was famous back then. But Katrina Kaif’s information on Google says that her father’s name is indeed Mohammad Kaif and that he is of Kashmiri origin, though there is no confirmation or denial from Katrina. Well, at least there is confirmation from Mohammad Kaif the cricketer that he is not related to Katrina and that he is happily married! Still, he was reminded by fans that his wife follows him on Twitter! “Watch it, bro! Your wife follows you on twitter”, a fan said. While another said, “Who said koi rishta nahi? We all Indians are brother and sisters.”Take a look at some of the reactions. Finally the Kaif’s meet.PS- As clarified earlier, abhi tak koi rishta nahi , except insaaniyat ka 🙂 pic.twitter.com/5lK1cLHlEq— Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) 4 June 2019 Kaif meet Kaif— Aman Bedha (@amanbedha) 4 June 2019 Both Kaifs’ career took a huge stardom from London; #KatrinaKaif from the movie Namaste London, @MohammadKaif from NatWest final on @HomeOfCricket Lord’s London!— ASHISH TRIPATHI (@TripathiThunder) 4 June 2019 Mohammad Katrina.— Voice of Assam (@VoiceOfAxom) 4 June 2019 Who said koi rishta nahi? HISD Planning More Than 200 Million In Budget Cuts To Address Deficit

first_imgTravis BubenikKashmere High School, one of the Houston schools that has faced the threat of a state takeover amid the district’s budget problems. On Tuesday, district officials praised the school’s recent turnaround and growing enrollment.Houston’s school district is working on a plan to overcome a more than $200 million budget deficit. On Tuesday, Houston Independent School District Superintendent Richard Carranza said despite some rumors circulating in the community, charter schools are not part of the plan.HISD currently owes the state more than $200 million – and possibly as much as $269 million – in “recapture” payments, money that districts deemed “property wealthy” have to share with other districts.Hurricane Harvey made the problem worse, causing students and their families to leave town.“We’re anticipating not only a drop in property taxes, in the valuations, but also a loss of student enrollment,” Carranza explained at a ceremony marking renovations at Kashmere High School. Carranza said officials are gearing up for what he called “extensive and drastic” budget cuts. He said the plan will not include turning public schools into charters, but it will have a big impact. He noted that 80% of the district’s budget is for employees.“Cuts are cuts,” he said. “Our goal is to keep that as far away from the classroom and teachers and teaching positions and the instruction that happens in schools as possible, but next year will look significantly different than it looks this year, because when you cut $200 million plus, it’s going to effect everything you do,” he said.In a statement, the district said Carranza is recommending a “shift to a more centralized budgeting process” for schools in the 2018-2019 school year. Under this process, the district said, principals will retain authority over hiring decisions, but the district will make sure schools have “essential positions” such as nurses, counselors and librarians.“This change is an effort to maximize the district’s limited funding while continuing to drive its initiatives,” the district’s statement read.Meanwhile, the district has what Carranza called “preliminary plans” to improve 15 under-achieving schools that are facing the threat of a state takeover. (Kashmere High School is among the schools facing that threat, though in December, Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath approved a “turnaround plan” for the school that, if successful, could stem off state intervention.) Carranza said while nothing is finalized, the plans for improving schools could include campuses partnering with colleges, non-profits or community organizations.
