Oxfam Joins With Stars To Launch I Hear You Project In Support

first_imgThis week, Oxfam launches “I Hear You”, a project designed to amplify the personal stories of the world’s most vulnerable refugees with some of Hollywood’s leading voices.The video series features Margot Robbie, John Cho, Gael García Bernal, Minnie Driver, and more reading the real life stories of refugees from around the world who have been forced from their homes as they flee conflict, disaster, poverty, inequality, and the effects of climate change, in the hopes that you might hear their stories and join the campaign.In partnership with Condé Nast Entertainment (CNÉ), six of the videos, featuring Margot Robbie, John Cho, Gael García Bernal, Anna Camp, Minnie Driver, and Al Madrigal will debut on Vanity Fair’s website, along with CNÉ’s The Scene, here.In addition, “I Hear You” features Melissa Leo, Oliver Platt, Erik Griffin, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Ari Graynor, Jordana Brewster, Yasmine Al Massri, and Andrea Riseborough. The creator of the project, Julie Anne Robinson, is a BAFTA and Golden Globe nominated theatre, TV and film director/producer.“I came up with the idea for this project because I wanted to find a way to communicate the human stories of displaced people,” said Julie Anne Robinson. “These are people we tend to fear and reject, but I found they are driven by the same things as all of us- love of their children and a desire to work.”“I don’t believe we can become numb to the pain and suffering of so many people in the world when there are actually real things we can do,” said Minnie Driver, actor and Oxfam celebrity ambassador. “We can share and we can be available to help other each other, and it feels like we’ve forgotten that. I hope that this project helps to remind people of their fundamental humanity and the kindness and love we can and must extend to one another. There, visitors can hear the real life stories of refugees, read more about the refugee crisis, and learn what they can do to help. Oxfam is currently working in 20 countries affected by the refugee crisis to help people who have fled their homes because of violence, conflict or persecution. Cosmopolitan jcpenney Partner in Clothing Line

Everybody, I think, in the beginning was a little nervous. I don’t know that it’s ever really been done before that a magazine would have this much input.”Cosmo will play a role in marketing and promotion of the line through traditional ad placements, as well as content integration.A slideshow featured on the Cosmopolitan.com front page Thursday allows readers to link to a story about the product launch and includes an option to purchase the clothing from jcp.com.“One of my main jobs as we move forward is finding ways to integrate the product,” Schulz says. “How to promote the product in an organic way that makes sense for our reader. We know she doesn’t want to be clobbered with it, she doesn’t want to be getting a message about the Cosmo Collection every five seconds.”“But where it does make sense to her, we want to be able to tell her, ‘Look at these new shoes. They’re in store now. We think you’re going to love them.’ “The product launch is the first of its kind for Cosmopolitan, which attracts more than 18 million print readers and 8.5 unique monthly visitors. The company has participated in collaborative media projects with Sterling Books and YouTube, however.jcpenney also signed a licensing deal with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia [MSLO] in December of 2011. That agreement calls for a line of MSLO products to be sold online and in retail outlets that will be constructed within most jcpenney stores by February 2013. jcpenney also invested $38.5 million in MSLO in the deal. Deputy sheriff 11 others killed in California shooting

Photo: AFPA gunman killed 12 people including a sheriff’s deputy after he walked into a Southern California bar and started shooting late on Wednesday night, police said.The gunman was also killed, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean told a news conference early on Thursday, though it was not immediately clear by whom.An unknown number of people were wounded during the attack at the Borderline Bar and Grill, a country & western venue in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks.“It’s a horrific scene in there,” Dean said. “There is blood everywhere and the suspect is part of that.”Officials said shots were still being fired when the first officers arrived at the scene.The dead officer was identified as Sergeant Ron Helus, a 29-year veteran of the department, Dean told reporters. Helus and a California Highway Patrol officer were the first to arrive at the bar and went inside just before 11:30 p.m. PST (0730 GMT).After a lull of about 15 minutes, more officers went inside and found the suspected gunman dead of a gunshot wound.
